Welcome to Foundation 2

Foundation 2 class is held in Blackbird room

Dear Zoo book image

Welcome to Blackbird Class, we’re looking forward to getting to know you all.

To start the Year off we’re going to be looking at lots of stories with animals in. Our main focus will be ‘Dear Zoo’ by Rod Campbell but we’ll use a whole range of stories and poems to support the learning: from ‘Percy the Park Keeper’ to ‘Giraffe’s Can’t Dance’. Lots of the stories have repeated refrains or rhymes that we’ll learn to join in with. We’ll learn to map and step the key events of a story to help us learn to retell it. We’ll be making our first marks as we write letters to the zoo like in ‘Dear Zoo’.

In PE we’ll be finding out different ways we can use our bodies to move and dance like animals.

In maths, as well as learning how to count and recite number names, we’ll also be thinking about comparing and categorising – which animal is taller? Which is the smallest? We’ll start to make our own questions to investigate the world mathematically. This will link to our communication and language development where we’ll be learning to use descriptive language to describe the animals in our stories.

In our art activities, as well as making drawings, paintings and models of animals, we’ll think about how we can represent our selves. What is special about us and how could we show it in a picture?

There’s lots to learn and lots of fun to be had. We hope that you all have a great first term and a great year with us here at Larkrise.
